Provincial Rules and Regulations
- The Government of Quebec has established strict rules and requirements for anyone who takes steps to manage the presence of Eurasian watermilfoil in a waterbody in Quebec.
- These rules and requirements are intended to protect native plant and animal species in and around our lakes.
- The Lake Association’s duty is to inform you of these legal requirements.
- As individuals or as an Association, we are not allowed to cut milfoil with a manual or electric cutter or with a harvester without a formal authorization from the Quebec government, nor can we install burlap or another cover on the lake bottom covering an area larger than 75m2, no matter the size of the waterbody.
- A second authorization may be required related to the conservation and development of wildlife.
- The process of obtaining provincial authorizations is both onerous and expensive and would require broad support from lake residents.
- The authorization process is explained here: [https://www.environnement.gouv.qc.ca/autorisations/autorisations-ministerielles.htm#nouvelle-demande]
- Members have mandated the Lake Association to develop a framework to deal with the milfoil infestation on our lake. The Lake Association Board is considering all legal options for our milfoil control program for 2026.
