Preventing Wildfires!
- Wildfires have become a fact of life in the Gatineau. Just last year an innocent campfire came within moments of becoming a wildfire that could easily have engulfed homes and forest around Lac Notre-Dame and surrounding area.
- The fact is most wildfires are caused by human activity. You can prevent wildfires:
- Do not light an open fire when the Fire Danger Index is Very High or Extreme.
- Sign up for a mobile app created by the fire prevention organization SOPFEU to receive alerts about wildfires, current restrictions, and the Fire Danger Index rating for our area.
- Ensure cigarettes or other smoking materials are dead cold before discarding them in the forest.
- Follow Municipality of La Pêche fire restrictions which prohibit open fires of any kind when winds exceed 15 km/hour or when the Fire Danger Index is Extreme.
- Consult also SOPFEU’s website for advices on fire prevention
